Hmm.., tried this, but all the phone does is blink the white and blue AT&T World Phone screen over and over again. Perhaps I'm doing something incorrectly? Holding in volume up and home while turning it on. This is the first day I've had the phone so I think I'm just going to take it back to AT&T tomorrow for a replacement.

Samsung customer support are useless. They will tell you you cannot reset it yourself but to take it to an authorised samsung dealer and pay $39.00AUD with 2 day turn around time.

YES you can unlock it yourself but unfortunately you will have to reset it and lose all your apps/pics etc.

    1. switch off. Hold volume UP and power button and home button simultaneously. release home button (and press again) while still holding volume up and power button. A boot up screen will pop up. Use volume keys to select (reset and restore) press home button to select.

2.Once reset and the phone starts up again it will still show locked. Get another phone to call your phone. as soon as you swipe answer press back key (arrow key) (you gotta be quick) and the main home screen will come up!!! . press the left menu button and select settings and turn off pattern code then go to menu and factory reset the phone again.

It worked for me ,.. hope it works for you too

Just an update on my lockout issue..

AT&T replaced my phone with no questions asked. This may have had something to do with me locking it out within the first 12 hours of owning the phone..., but it's just another option if you're sick of screwing around with it.
Also, they said that it was the first they had heard of this problem in the store. I thought that was interesting.

Someone posted this earlier in the thread...

if you forgot your pattern lock, just give few more tries to continue wrong efforts. at an instant, the OS will report 'attempts exceeded, enter with your gmail'. at this point just enter your email address and in the textbox for password just give value as 'NULL'. this will instantly ask for new pattern lock and you are done!

    hope this works.

My friends kid kept trying the unlock pattern and I ignored it thinking it will not unlock unless the right unlock pattern was entered, But gracious heavens the "Too Many Unlock Attempts" screen came up and I was struggling to do away with it. Finally i saw your post and tried it out. It was nothing but pure magic.

One more thing i did before your suggestion was to install Samsung Kies and backed up all my data, so basically I lost nothing and I used the factory reset in the settings menu to reset the phone to factory settings and deleting all personal data and Apps.

Now my phone is just like new again.

    Thanks a Million.

    Regards,
    Ubald Fernandez

    Thanks pepsi2K!
My Galaxy S I9000 got locked. This method worked for me. Well, i didn't have to do the exact same steps. The first step initiating the boot up screen wwas helpful. From there i saw different options. It showed me Factory Settings reset. Use the volume up down key to scroll thru the list. Once you choose this, you will see a list of "No"s and one "Yes - Delete User data". Scroll down to this option and select using the home key. This reset my pattern lock.

Unable to store apps on SD card in Samsung Galaxy POP

    Hello!

Recently I find that while I want to install new apps from the market or update installed apps, installation gets stuck after downloading showing the error that "Unable to store in SD card". I removed the SD card and then re-inserted it while the error persists. I do not want to hard reset as it can wipe off my installed apps. Another important fact is that for some apps I am able to install. Is it that smaller apps get installed in phone memory? How can I transfer all installed apps in SD card from phone memory if they have been installed in phone memory?
    Thanks for the help.
